What are the 4 types of access control?
Companies that utilize an access control system have greater control over who can enter their building and when by restricting access to certain individuals, to certain areas, or during certain hours.
There are basically four types of access control systems to meet specific company needs:
Mandatory Access Control (MAC) – A MAC system provides strict security measures by allowing companies to classify each user and allow access based on administrator programming.
Discretionary Access Control (DAC) – The DAC system provides flexibility to businesses with a list of certain people authorized to gain access to specific control points.
Role-Based Access Control (RBAC) – RBAC is popular for businesses, especially when companies have high turnover or employees move from one area to another with access granted to individuals based on their job title or function.
Rule-Based Access Control – these types of access control systems differ from role-based systems in that they are typically used with another type of access control system.
