What is a Trouble Indication?

A properly working fire alarm system is vital to saving lives and protecting assets. A key component of your commercial fire alarm system is the signals that are emitted which trigger different notifications or alarms.

Your commercial fire alarm system works by sending signals to the fire alarm control panel (FACP) when smoke or extreme heat is detected. This signal will also sound the fire alarm to alert building occupants and alert the fire alarm monitoring company to dispatch the fire department and emergency responders.

Your fire alarm system has three key signals that communicate building or system issues on your property. One type is the trouble signal which indicates when an operational or maintenance issue in the system is detected that requires attention. These signals are usually yellow and may even be able to pinpoint the exact area of the problem. Other causes for a trouble signal can include power loss to the FACP, ground faults, issues with wiring or connectivity, or battery power.
