Smoke Detector
A smoke detector is an input device used in commercial and residential properties to detect smoke from a fire and is a vital component of a fire alarm system. Smoke detectors utilize two types of technology to detect smoke: photoelectric and ionization (photoelectric is preferred).
Photoelectric smoke detectors work by projecting a steady, concentrated light beam onto a mirror using an LED source of light that points away from the sensor and into a sensing chamber. The light that is reflected onto the light sensor is disrupted when smoke enters the chamber, scattering light in all directions and sounding the alarm.
