This input device consists of an emitter and a receiver, both of which need to be in the line of sight of one another. An alarm or fault is triggered when the detector’s narrow, focused infrared beam of light is broken. Beam fire detectors work much in the same way. The sensor is designed to react to specific inputs that enable it to distinguish between heat and smoke in an enclosed area. A partial or full blockage of the beam would trigger a trouble indicator and not an alarm.
