What are Aspirating Smoke Detectors?
Aspirating smoke detectors (ASD) work by using a fan to draw air into a central detection chamber via a pipe system for smoke identification. It detects the light that is scattered from smoke particles inside the chamber. Generally, an aspirating smoke detector can detect smoke in the air before the smoke is visible.
Aspirating smoke detectors have a sampling pipe with numerous boreholes and can filter the air and remove any contaminants, so a false alarm is not triggered. ASD systems are best suited for areas that contain highly flammable materials such as paper or cardboard and can be set to high sensitivity for the earliest detection of smoke.
